Mullahs lead us from light unto darkness

The Salman Rushdie saga that has shamed the Indian state and held it up to ridicule in those countries where society is more enlightened and whose Governments are committed to upholding non-negotiable values of liberty, continues to take interesting twists and turns. The story that began with the maulanas of Darul Uloom Deoband demanding that the author of The Satanic Verses be prohibited from visiting India to attend the Jaipur Literature Festival should have come to an end with the Congress ensuring compliance to that outrageous call to throttle democracy and restrict freedom. But it hasn’t.
