UPA suffers another blow

The Supreme Court’s judgement on Tuesday in an appeal filed by Subramanian Swamy is a telling commentary on the administrative and political failures of the United Progressive Alliance government. Swamy’s original request—that against inaction in the matter of sanctioning of prosecution against former telecom minister A. Raja—is now obsolete. But the court’s observations and order on the issue of sanctioning of prosecution are very relevant in India’s fight against corruption. But more important are its observations on the failure of the highest executive authority in the land on checking an errant minister.
