Communists at a Crossroads

If the Marxists of Kerala are to be believed, Jesus Christ is in the same league as some of the world’s best-known revolutionaries such as Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Or at least that is how the CPI(M) in Kerala has projected Jesus at an exhibition during its State-level conference at Thiruvananthapuram that ended on Friday. In its gallery of revolutionaries, two pictures stood out: One that showed Jesus Christ on the Cross, and the other which was a spoof of Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper painting. The latter showed US President Barack Obama as Christ presiding over The Last Supper, and it was supposed to symbolise the end of capitalism.
