TVs, mobile phones spearhead shift in rural India
Chanderi, a small town of 40,000 people in the Ashoknagar district of Madhya Pradesh, is best known for its weavers. A decade ago, the inhabitants would spend their evenings in the town square, chatting. There was little else to do. Such gatherings are rare now, says Quaiser Jehan Qureshi, a local school teacher.
