Diageo exits Tamil Nadu over graft laws
India's largest liquor company United Spirits (USL) has decided to exit direct operations in Tamil Nadu, suggesting that its new owner wouldn't manage markets which could potentially violate international anti-graft laws, people close to the matter said. This move comes just a month after USL was acquired by British drinks giant Diageo. Tamil Nadu is one of the largest markets for branded spirits where the wholesale and retail trade is controlled by state government.
