Bank-rolling a constituency, the finance minister style

More than 50 years ago, a group of Indians arrived in the deep south Indian town of Sivaganga in Tamil Nadu. Some of them had lost everything — money, wealth, even near and dear ones. These Indians, who had fled Burma (as it was then called) after the Japanese invasion in 1942 with almost nothing, reached the town traumatised after a hellish journey over treacherous mountain passes and thick jungles.
