The Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra is likely to announce a 20 per cent reservation for the Maratha community in state government jobs and educational institutions. The political masterstroke meant to help the ruling coalition reap electoral dividends looks controversial though as Marathas who make up 35 per cent of the population is a 'forward caste.'
