How can you ask me such a question? Who do you think you are?” The answer to this rather common query has always seemed a bit obvious to me, yet it never gets old for our politicians. They may be otherwise intelligent people who know what professionalism means, they may say they respect you, and regard what you do, but ask them one uncomfortable question and either they will resent you and treat you suspiciously for a very long time, or they will throw their favourite line: How dare you! Don’t you know who I am? Of course, the second part is usually left unsaid as it’s implicit in the first half.
