Sino-Indian bonhomie myth

Cooperation between India and China in the United Nations and other multilateral fora comes up for favourable mention even in commentaries that call for caution and preparedness in the face of the increased assertiveness of and threat from China. The perception is that, as fellow developing countries, India and China should be able to work together against the machinations of the developed countries in economic negotiations. Both stand for equity and justice and oppose neo-colonialism and neo-imperialism. But China, more often than not, identifies itself with the permanent members and other developed countries, while paying lip service to its solidarity with the developing countries. Its appearance of working with India at the UN is tactical and opportunistic.
