New master plan for Delhi must reflect India's republican spirit

The press has reported that the master plan for Delhi is being revised for the next 25 years. This is an opportunity for the government to see that the New Master Plan reflects that India has now become a republic and is no longer a colony of the British rulers. Lutyens Bungalow Zone in New Delhi had been planned for our British rulers when the people were their subjects. When India became independent and a republican Constitution was adopted, the people became sovereign and the prime minister, ministers and judges as well as senior bureaucrats became their servants.
