Infrastructure needn't be a bottleneck
Dr Justin Lin, senior vice-president and chief economist at the World Bank, and PhD from the University of Chicago, is clear-cut about the role of finance, when it comes to the relative development of the financial sector vis-a-vis industry. "The main function of the financial sector is to serve the real economy," says Dr Lin, who is on academic leave from Peking University in China, and is, in fact, the first developing-country national to occupy the World Bank post. In different stages of development, the real economy - its nature of production, its properties, etc, would be different.
