A question of balance

The Lokpal Bill is finally before Parliament. But people remain confused - and it would not be out of place to speak of 'lok confusion' galore. A premise on which some people have criticised the Bill is basic mistrust of government. But that people in government can never be honest and fair is hardly the foundation on which demo-cracy can be sustained. Eternal vigilance is a virtue and guarantee of freedom, but obsessive suspicion of elected representatives is the beginning of the end of democracy and freedom.
