Last-mile issues for GST

On January 9, 2012, the Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers gave an “in-principle” nod to the Union government’s proposal to re-orient taxation of services from a formally listed set of services to a comprehensive coverage limited by a negative list. This move constitutes one important step in the attempts to introduce GST in the country.
