PM's secy steps in to stave off coal crisis
Pulok Chatterji, the powerful principal secretary to the prime minister, is spearheading a PMO initiative to ramp up coal production in the country, as he emerges as a key government pointsman on infrastructure and economic issues. Chatterji has initiated discussions with the coal, mining, and power ministries for increasing coal production by 120 million tonnes by 2015-16 to stave off the looming power crisis in the country. He is working closely with the ministries to prepare a blueprint by the month-end for reviving the coal sector.
