The democracy alibi: 660 million vs 66 million

The global number for abject poverty- people living on less than $1.25 a day - is now half its 1990 level. But if you remove the 660 million people China has taken out of poverty from the data, the 1.1 billion poor people outside China have barely budged since 1981.
