Sonia springs Bahuguna surprise on Uttarakhand

The 65-year-old second term MP from Tehri is son of former UP Chief Minister Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna. A former High Court judge and enjoying a clean image, Bahuguna was chosen ahead of the other strong contender Union Minister Harish Rawat because he is seen as the perfect foil to outgoing Chief Minister Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri. Incidentally, Khanduri and Bahuguna are cousins and both enjoy tremendous goodwill in the hill areas, especially the electorally dominant    Garhwal region.
