Sting in the tail
As opposed to public perception and what the government would like everyone to believe, the Chief of Army Staff, Gen V.K. Singh, is not riding into the sunset on May 31. There is as yet no clarity on whether the government has taken a decision on his year of birth which is probably why the general has still not been issued a retirement warning letter (RWL). This has led to the absurd situation of the government rushing in to announce the appointment of the next army chief, Lt Gen Bikram Singh, presently heading the Calcutta-based Eastern Command, without clearing the way for his smooth takeover.
