Sparking a major uproar and leaving the Kerala Government fuming, the Centre on Friday sided with Italy and told the Supreme Court that India had no jurisdiction to try the Italian mariners or to seize the merchant vessel bearing  the Italian flag. The dramatic U-turn came after weeks of contrary claims made by senior Ministers and officials.
