Officials in the Ministry of Finance are not yet ready to digest the abrupt transfer of MK Madhavan Nair, Member, CBDT, from the Budget-making exercise, just 25 days before Pranab Mukherjee presents the country’s account keeping papers to the nation. Nair’s transfer from Member (Legislation) to Member (Investigation) was carried out by Finance Secretary RS Gujral on February 16 in such a tearing hurry that the mandatory approval of the Minister of State (Finance) was obtained on phone by his personal staff.
