Karat & Co helpless as Kerala CPM heads for potential split
Until he was hacked to death by a seven-member death squad late on May 4, TP Chandrasekharan was just a CPM rebel in the communist stronghold of Onchiyam in north Kerala---albiet a very popular and affable one. In death, he has become a rallying point for not just the rebels, but also for many CPM cadres and sympathisers-all of whom want the party leadership to shed its violent ways. The man facing the heat over the murder is the powerful state secretary of the CPM, Pinarayi Vijayan.
