The ruling Democratic Front (DF) found itself in an embarrassing situation on Monday, as Jalgaon Police arrested Maharashtra Minister of State for Agriculture Gulabrao Deokar of the NCP in the Rs 29.59-crore 1997 Gharkul low-cost housing scam. Deokar had responded to summons and appeared before the Zilla Peth police around noon. He was initially remanded to 14 days' judicial custody. Later, he was granted bail against a cash surety of Rs 50,000 by district sessions court judge RN Kshirsagar.
