CPM general secretary Prakash Karat has a propensity for missing out on opportunities. So far, it was only the West Bengal unit of his party that has been vocal about this inveterate trait. With the Keralaunit throwing its weight behind him, he didn't find it tough getting re-elected to the post in the recently-concluded Party Congress - it is a different thing that it is not seen as a coveted position any more in terms of the respect it commands.
