Jagan’s arrest may hasten collapse of Congress in AP
For all the mountain of evidence that the CBI has marshalled against Jaganmohan Reddy, the decision to arrest him late on Sunday was in the end a political project. Even Congress leaders in Andhrar Pradesh aren’t shy of acknowledging it as such. For months, the Congress dithered over the tack it should take to counter the political challenge that Reddy posed to it: should it, for instance, try and lure him back into the party from which he’d broken away after his father YSR’s death – because he wasn’t given the chief ministership – or intimidate him into submission and neutralise his challenge?
