Perceptive differences apart, major industry and commerce bodies have called for a unified approach to steer the economy through a new crisis looming large on the horizon. While the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) blamed the government for the present mess, the Assocham (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry) described the situation as a passing phase and condemned a section of India Inc. for propagating a pessimistic outlook. Both bodies, however, wanted the government to tighten its belt and take tough decisions.
