Trinamool candidate wins U.P. by-election

Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress opened its account in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Friday by winning the Mant by-election in Mathura district. Shyam Sunder Sharma, a former Minister known for switching party loyalties, was declared elected defeating his nearest rival, Yogesh Chaudhary of Rashtriya Lok Dal, by a wide margin. The ruling Samajwadi Party's Sanjay Lathar finished third.
