As SP comes closer, Congress keeps fingers crossed

When Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, speaking at the G20 meeting in Mexico, expressed his government’s resolve to take tough decisions to revive the India story, reactions at home were sceptical. The election for President has diminished TMC chief Mamata Banerjee’s clout, but the man who has gained immense importance as a result — SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav — presents for the UPA as much of a threat as an opportunity.
