The government has decided to “look afresh” at the Vodafone retrospective tax, an official who attended the first meeting of finance ministry bureaucrats with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh yesterday said. The income-tax department will likely not serve a demand notice to the UK-based telecom major — a move aimed at a much-needed image makeover for the government, the official said.
