Though it had led the demand for a UPA Coordination Committee, the Trinamool Congress, the second largest partner in the ruling alliance, stayed away from its first meeting on Wednesday. This was because, senior MP Kunal Ghosh said, party chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her second-in-command, Railway Minister Mukul Roy, were touring the Maoist-affected Junglemahal area in West Bengal.
