Same old speech on new Independence Day

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday delivered his ninth Independence Day address to the nation, becoming the first non-Nehru-Gandhi PM to do so. But at a time when the people were looking up to him to come up with some announcement that would reinvigorate the economy or lift the general sense of gloom that has gripped the country, all that the PM could deliver was platitudes.
