The Supreme Court’s order of August 31, asking Sahara Group to pay back Rs 17,400 crore with interest to investors, has once again revived allegations of foul play by SEBI on instructions from the Union Ministry of Finance. The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, was the Union Minister for Finance during the period when SEBI is alleged to have helped out Sahara.
