India’s newly appointed Chief Economic Advisor Raghuram Rajan has advocated decontrolling diesel prices rather than increasing the tax on diesel vehicles. In his first formal media interaction, Rajan said, “The best policy is (to) move towards true cost of the fuel. The problem with diesel versus petrol is not the vehicle but the fuel cost.
