Demoted Jaipal pays price for honesty

A man of unflinching integrity, Jaipal Reddy was shunted out of the petroleum ministry despite his honest efforts to clear up the mess in the country's oil and gas sector. This is being widely regarded as a victory for powerful corporate interests. Among his decisions that possibly made him unpopular with some sections of corporate India, in one case he had held out against a demand for raising the price of natural gas and in another forced an oil and gas company to foot the cost of royalty for an oilfield before clearing a deal.
