Poll panel can't derecognize Congress on Swamy's plea
The Congress need not lose sleep over Subramanian Swamy's petition to the Election Commission seeking de-recognition of the party for allegedly violating provisions of the Representation of People's Act and Income Tax Act. For, the EC can de-recognize a political party only on two grounds: a serious violation of the model code of conduct in an ongoing election or for not fulfilling the performance criteria for recognition as a national or state party at the last parliamentary/state poll.
