Lesser evil

It's just as well that Ajmal Kasab's hanging was carried out without too much ceremony, given the possibility of terror attacks to forestall it, if it were publicly announced in advance. This newspaper doesn't enthusiastically endorse capital punishment. Indeed, we are opposed to the death sentence in most cases. But there are legal, moral as well as practical reasons for awarding the death penalty to Kasab.
