UPA to milk cash cow for elections

The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government appears to have learnt from international experiences that cash largesse to the people is a sure shot way of raking in the votes at the hustings. In what could be a potential game-changer in the run-up to the next general elections — and prepare the ground for bringing forward the timetable for the polls scheduled for 2014 — the UPA government has decided to begin direct cash transfer of subsidies to beneficiaries.
