Government-EC faceoff on direct cash transfer

The UPA government and the Election Commission (EC) locked horns over the direct cash transfer scheme on Sunday. The poll body told the Centre it was unhappy about the announcement of the UPA's big project when the model code of conduct in poll-bound Gujarat was in force, and sought a report from the government by Monday evening.
