Sharia’h courts in conflict with modern jurisprudence
The worst fears of those who have been pressing for implementation of a uniform civil code have come true. Bibi Shehzadi, a 32-year-old social worker in Bihar's Asiyani village, Purnea district, was recently beaten to death for suspected adultery. Stoning to death is prescribed by the Islamic Sharia’h for adulterous wives. Men, of course, can have four wives or obtain immediate divorce under the rule of Talaaq-ul-bidaat.
