Picking and choosing

A central tenet of liberalisation is that the Government should not engage in policy-making at a micro-industry level and, instead, concentrate on the larger ‘macro’ picture. This principle ought to apply to trade policy as well. But what we are seeing is the opposite. Take the latest additional export incentive measures by the Commerce Ministry.
