Slashing budget for Armed Forces is wrong

After a year that saw the Armed Forces significantly slow down its modernisation efforts despite outrage over its lack of operational preparedness, a reversal of this trend was strongly expected in the new year. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be happening. The Union Ministry of Finance has recently slashed the defence budget by a whopping Rs10,000 crore, ostensibly due to the economic downturn. The cut will be imposed entirely upon the capital acquisition section of the budget that deals with the purchase of weapons and equipment.
