Rail fare hike is good politics

In less than three months, railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal has achieved what his five predecessors could not do over 10 years: raise passenger fares across the board. Interestingly, it almost mirrored the aborted increase that was attempted by then railway minister Dinesh Trivedi, before he was fired from the job by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee.
