The mighty dragon’s middle class has already repeatedly risen against its Government's efforts to censor the Press, restrict the internet, grab land and generally suppress the citizens. Protests in southern China earlier this month by the middle class against the censorship imposed on the newspaper, Southern Weekend, have exposed the cracks that are now emerging in Asia’s largest Communist monolith. The protests were to show support for the newspaper that had bravely opposed the manner in which the censor’s changed its New Year day editorial from one calling for freedom of expression to one praising China’s authoritarian system.
