Shield for tainted MPs may not change
On a question from the Supreme Court whether a convicted MP/MLA should be treated differently from other convicts who are barred from contesting elections if they are sentenced to a prison term of two years or more, the government is likely to defend the existing provisions in Section 8(4) of the Representation of People's (RP) Act favouring an elected representative.
