Conservatives throttle Kashmir’s all-girls band

The shameful online hate campaign to stifle the voice of Kashmir's first all-girls rock band, Pragaash, is yet another instance of the growing intolerance in society today to all things that do not conform to its chauvinistic definition of propriety.The band, significantly named Pragaash — meaning ‘from darkness to light', had literally come like a whiff of fresh air in a State where two-decades of armed violence and terror appear to be on the wane; where the staccato sounds of AK47s are being replaced by the joyous sounds of music; where  youngsters are taking to music and cultural pursuits to give vent to their angst and their aspirations.
