Say it with numbers

It is a cliche to say that globalisation has integrated the world economy, but there is scant evidence for such verity in national trade data. Economists noted that trade in intermediate goods formed an increasing part of commerce but it did not tell you how widgets and parts that cross borders many times over end up in finished export goods that figure in trade statistics.
