Tripura Elections: The writing on the wall is red

Sukumar Debnath, 44, is an electrical engineer by training who runs a grocery store in Dhanpur, west Tripura. It isn’t out of choice that he earns a living from a trade that’s so far removed from his degree; it’s because he couldn’t find a job as an engineer. Debnath reels off unemployment numbers—650,000 people in the state of 3.7 million are unemployed and around 100,000 of them, like him, are too old to find a job, he says.
