Obama pivot back to Washington

In 2011, after a decade of conflict and controversy in the Middle East, the Obama administration announced that US strategy would 'pivot to Asia'. Sceptics wondered whether this was mere wishful thinking or a practical and implementable policy shift. Certainly, there has been no reduction in the strategic importance of the energy-rich Middle East nor in America's commitment to the security of Israel.
