Doggedly policing politicos' pockets

As I write this piece, Palaniappan Chidambaram, our Finance Minister, is preparing a budget. I don't want to be in his shoes. After all, every proverb - like, a 'catch-22 situation,' 'damned if he does and damned if he doesn't,' 'between a rock and a hard place' etc, could describe his predicament. The economy is in a tailspin, the fiscal deficit looms and the Congress is finally nervous about its prospects in the 2014 elections.
