Bandh as ritual

According to its organisers, the Bharat bandh called by 11 trade unions should compel the Centre to undo its " anti-people" policies. The real question they should ask is what the two-day exercise achieved. If public inconvenience aggravated by vandalism of the kind witnessed in Noida and Delhi were any indication, general strikes remain a coercive instrument that mitigates against democratic principles.
