Maya, Mamata tip Congress on land reforms

Chief Minister Mayawati has taken the wind out of the Congress sails in Uttar Pradesh. The land acquisition policy she announced on Thursday can only be described as a political masterstroke. With this, she has demolished all the Congress plans to use the farmers’ discontent to win the state elections due in a year. What’s more, the policy is in many respects a copy of the new land acquisition law, proposed by Sonia Gandhi-led National Advisory Council (NAC).
