Justice for Mumbai
Here's a judgment that reflects zero-tolerance towards terrorism — with a difference. The Supreme Court (SC) has upheld the death sentence of prime accused Yakub Memon in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case. At the same time, it has commuted death penalty to life term for 10 other accused. It is often the case that terror`s foot soldiers get nailed while the main conspirators get away lightly. Recognising this, the apex court has explained the lesser penalty for 10 bomb-planters by suggesting that they were mere pawns used by Yakub, his brother Tiger Memon and Dawood Ibrahim, both of whom are considered absconders.
